About the Position

Our Enhanced Foster & Kinship Care Program provides children and young people with complex support needs, and who are not able to live with their own family, the opportunity to live in a safe and nurturing family environment.

The program supports children, young people and carers in the Sunshine Coast region. We are currently looking to increase our pool of casual Youth Workers to support the service, and are seeking individuals with flexible availability for during and after hours work, including weekends. Opportunities are available to work across the Sunshine Coast and Gympie communities.

The role’s overall purpose is to provide direct care and support to children, young people and their families that will enhance opportunities for the young person to participate in age appropriate activities, to support development of positive self-regard, community inclusion, positive relationships with family of origin, and to contribute to placement stability. 

The Youth Worker is also responsible for ensuring that reporting is provided accurately and in a timely way that meets organisational guidelines.

About You

Complimenting your exceptional communication skills and previous experience in child and family support will be:

  • Ability to engage children and youth quickly and effectively and support them in the development of independent living skills
  • Sound understanding of child behaviour and development, working from a trauma-informed framework
  • Ability to observe and navigate the complex family dynamics often present for children in care
  • Confident and professional response to crisis situations - working within risk and compliance guidelines
  • A team player who works in a collaborative manner, but is capable of operating autonomously on a daily basis
  • Provide leadership and a positive adult role model to young people, assisting them to develop confidence and self-worth
  • Contribution to Care Plans by providing evidence-based insight, assessments and evaluations
     

Qualifications and certifications required to be successful in this role include:

  • A relevant Certificate IV or Diploma level qualification in Youth Work, Child, Youth & Family, Community Services or similar
  • Consideration will also be given to special skills that may support specific interests of young people
  • A current Blue Card (Working with Children)
  • Ability to obtain a successful suitability check through the Department of Communities (Child Safety Services) (LCS-2)
  • Clean, open Queensland Drivers Licence
