About the Position

Anglicare’s Children and Families have a long history of providing family and children support services, including family intervention, foster and kinship care, counselling, relationship support and much more. Our team at Gympie are looking for a Family Support Practitioner to join them on a full-time basis, providing an in-home support service to vulnerable families experiencing challenges in caring for their children.

The Family Support Practitioner will provide practical and therapeutic assistance to families so their children can remain safely in the family home. Referrals may come from a variety of sources including Family and Child Connect, the Department of Communities Child Safety and Disability Services, the parents themselves, family members, members of the community and community agencies.

 

About You

With a background in Social Services, you will have significant experience working within domestic and family violence services, particularly relating to child protection. Your capabilities in this area will include:

  • Experience in professional case work supporting children at risk, vulnerable families and perpetrators of family violence
  • Active engagement with parents and children including assessment, planning and delivery both practical and therapeutic assistance
  • Proven background working with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds and the capacity to display cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Ability to administer and interpret outcomes-based assessments, and perform domestic violence risk assessments
  • Developing goals and strategies with families that align with the priority of ceasing the use of abusive, violent and controlling behaviour, as well as supporting improved wellbeing
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external agencies and groups to support families and provide the best outcomes possible
  • Participate in continuous improvement objectives and maintain current awareness of legislative requirements and practice standards
  • Ability to complete complex documentation on time and within required guidelines
  • Skilled in the use of computers and at an intermediate level with Microsoft Suite

With the ability to relate effectively with a wide range of people, particularly vulnerable children and families who may also have mental health, violence or substance abuse issues, you will also offer:

  • Maturity and emotional resilience with the ability to self-care effectively
  • A calm, professional approach with the ability to use initiative & sound judgement in decision making including negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong capacity for problem-solving, with the ability to think outside the box to ensure successful solutions
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to relate to a wide range of people, including different cultures & backgrounds
  • Demonstrated organisational and self-management skills with the ability to prioritise your own workload whilst working within a team environment
  • A dedicated approach to improving child and family well-being

Our successful candidate will require:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Behavioural Sciences or similar
  • Current Queensland Driver Licence
  • A valid Blue Card (Working with Children)
  • Current Licensed Care Service (LCS)
