Practitioner - Foster & Kinship Care (Identified Role)

About the Position

Anglicare’s Children & Families have a long history of providing family and children support services, including family intervention, foster and kinship care, counselling, relationship support and much more. Our Foster & Kinship Care Programs provide children and young people, who are not able to live with their own family, the opportunity to live in a safe nurturing family environment. This essential service based in Caboolture, is currently looking for a full time Practitioner to join their team - focusing on identifying, building and maintaining a supported network for foster and kinship carers.

It is a genuine occupational requirement of this role to identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, under S25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld)

There will be a strong focus on supporting non-Indigenous foster carers and staff to better understand the needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children in care and to respond in a holistic way that considers family, spiritual, community and individual needs. The successful applicant will work in close partnership with our Child Safety service centres and the foster carers to achieve the elements of the young person’s cultural plans. 

  

About You

As an experienced Case Worker / Practitioner, your primary responsibilities in this role will be:

  • Building and managing a successful network of Foster Carers throughout the region
  • Offering support and assistance to these carers to develop the necessary skills and resilience to be successful, utilising a culturally sensitive framework
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to identify with this heritage
  • Knowledge of trauma informed practice, the Child Protection Act (1999) and relevant legislation
  • Understanding and development of meaningful connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community networks & people
  • Delivery of effective training and facilitation of support groups
  • Ability to operate within child-centred frameworks
  • Participation in recruitment and onboarding of new Foster Carers
  • Completion of complex documentation on time and within required guidelines 

With highly developed communication skills, you will also have:

  • The ability to apply effective and professional decision making skills in crisis situations
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building capabilities
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Previous experience in consultation and negotiation practices
  • Proven ability to work within a small team, in a collaborative manner
  • Highly professional attitude, personal presentation and expectations

Qualifications and documentation required:

  • It is a genuine occupational requirement of this role to identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, under S25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld)
  • Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Sciences or similar
  • A valid Blue Card (Working with Children)
  • Current Licensed Care Service (LCS)
  • A current Queensland Driver Licence
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment would be beneficial
